For years, I struggled with losing weight and keeping it off. After so many failed attempts, I began to think there was something wrong with me.

What if there was a proven strategy you could follow to lose fat and gain muscle? What if you didn't have to spend tons of money on an expensive gym membership or overpriced supplements to get the body you wanted?

Lose up to 8 pounds in the first week: Definitely. That's what I did.
Eat til you're full and satisfied: Totally. I eat as much as I want with no counting calories.
Gain lean muscle: Absolutely. I've dropped 1 body fat percentage every week on average.  

Contrary to what you might think, you are not stuck with the current body that you have. With the right mindset and the right strategy, you can achieve your goals.

How do we transform our mindset? And, how do you know when you've found the right strategy for weight loss when there is so much noise in the fitness industry? 

My name is Touger (pronounced 2 - Jur) and I am the founder of Tsusha.

If you've ever been frustrated by people telling you, "You just have to work harder," or "You just have to be more disciplined," then we're going to be good pals :) I don't think weight loss is primarily about willpower or determination. It is not about working harder. It's about working smarter.

My Story and Struggle

For years, I struggled with my weight. As a young kid, my older brothers would tease me and call me, “fat.” I was the super sensitive one in the family so I would regularly respond by BEATING THEM DOWN WITH MY HUGE FISTS! Just kidding 🙂 Most of the time, I just ran away and cried. Then in middle school I hit this thing called puberty and I lost a lot of the baby fat that I carried around as a kid. For pretty much all of my teen years I was lean and had an athletic build. That said, it was during this time that I developed a habit of eating horribly; donuts and cookies were and still are a particular vice of mine. Although I was eating poorly, my high teenage metabolism and regular physical activities at school and with friends, helped me to stay slim. Then college came around and it all changed. I spent less and less time doing physical activities and I continued to eat junk food so I gained weight. I entered college weighing 160 lbs feeling fit and athletic. I left weighing 185 lbs feeling soft and pudgy. Afterward, I went to Duke to get my Master’s degree and it was while living there that my wife and I did P90X. For those who don’t know, P90X is a 12 week video program of intense cardio and body weight workouts. After just 3 months, I went from 185 lbs of chubbiness to 165 lbs of lean muscle. But…it didn’t last. I gained the weight back in about a year. Since I’m a weirdo, I actually kept track of my weight from 2011 on a spreadsheet so you can see it for yourself.

This pattern kept happening over and over again for the next 5 years. I would lose weight then gain back even MORE. I hated it and to be honest, it caused some depression. Why couldn’t I change this? What was I doing wrong? What was wrong with me?

Overcoming Limiting Belief

In my search for answers, I began reading the book, Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. In it, Robbins teaches the concept of limiting beliefs, which are conscious and unconscious beliefs that sabotage the changes that we want to make in our life. Limiting beliefs are so poisonous because they lead us to live passive lives. After learning about this concept, I began journaling about this question, “What limiting beliefs did I have that were stopping me from losing weight and keeping it off?” I wasn’t going to settle for, “I got busy with other things” or “I have a sweet tooth” or “I just need to try harder.” I knew it was something deeper that was limiting my ability to truly change my physical life. I journaled over a period of five days and through that process, I unearthed 3 unconscious limiting beliefs that were making it IMPOSSIBLE for me to truly make lasting physical changes. By unearthting these limiting beliefs, and replacing them with empowering truths, I've been able to lose 16 pounds in 3 weeks and I plan to lose 25 more pounds by the end of Feburary 2017.

I'm sharing everything I'm eating, how I'm exercising, but most importantly, I'm sharing the psychology that has empowerd me on my weight loss journey. I'm not an expert. I'm just a fellow traveler sharing what I'm learning and implementing in my own life.
